City of Puerto Vallarta
Permanent Government Commission on Education, Innovation, Science and Technology
Solidaridad Ed Thomas A.C. (SETAC)
To those present,
Mexican Federation of Sex and Science Education gives our biggest recognition to the City of Puerto Vallarta and its Permanent Government Commission and the nonprofit association Solidaridad Ed Thomas (SETAC), and the people of Puerto Vallarta for declaring this year as:
“2023, year of prevention, consciousness-raising and responsible sexual education for girls, boys and adolescents of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco”.
The current sexual health situation of Mexico’s population has alarming statistics of adolescent pregnancies, unwanted pregnancies, sexual abuse, sexual violence, and sexually transmitted infections. Preventing such situations via sexual education is a sustainable way to empower young people to live their sexuality in a responsible, conscious and healthy way.
At FEMESS, we recognize this initiative in Puerto Vallarta, the first of its kind in our country, that declares sexual education as a priority for girls, boys and adolescents, helping to create a new generation that has prevention information, consciousness and tools to live healthy lives.
We express our happiness with the synergy among the government institutions and the nonprofit and educational sectors that this initiative has created. Its promotional activities for sexual and reproductive rights for these populations–as well as additional actions integrating education on sexual and reproductive rights with courses, workshops and health fairs in educational campuses–will make the education real for the population of Puerto Vallarta, integrating it into the society with the help of families, government leaders, and health professionals.
This initiative’s actions will generate knowledge, reflection, and remembrance for these populations about their right to information that’s current, true, complete, scientific, and legal about sexuality, so they can make free and informed decisions for their lives.
Through integrated education about sexuality, we support a better future with health and wellness for the population of Mexico.
Cordially,
H. Rodrigo Moheno Mendoza
