The Mision

As a community based non-profit organization, SETAC provides essential services or referrals to the GLBT community. We focus our services in two areas: “prevention and harm reduction” services and “community” services. At-risk means that a GLBT person is facing some type of danger that would place that person’s life in jeopardy. This is why our GLBT Prevention and Harm Reduction services include recovery from alcoholism, drugs and other afflictions, physical and mental health treatment.s

Our Community services are provided to those people who simply wish to socialize with other like-minded people, which include educational and recreational activities. All SETAC’s services are provided in an environment of safety, free from discrimination.

In order to focus the services SETAC provides to at-risk GLBT, we have identified the following issues as being the most important to the Puerto Vallarta GLBT community:

  • Prone to physical / mental abuse
  • Abandoned / Homeless / Poverty
  • Just coming out
  • Suicidal
  • Prevention and Harm Reduction of HIV / STD infection
  • The Just Beyond Youth
  • Sexual Exploitation / Prostitution
  • The Just Beyond Youth GLBT
  • Drug and Alcohol abuse

Our Vision:

To become a benchmark service organization for the enrichment and strengthening the GBLT community as a whole, providing an extensive network of affiliated services and professionals representing the finest of human values: Respect, Unity, Opportunity, Equality and Tolerance.

The Goals

Goal

To accomplish our mission and vision, SETAC will offer the GLBT community, friends and family services to improve their emotional, psychological and physical well being. Create bridges and networks between the GLBT community and non-GLBT, local governance and police department that will allow for positive participation and learning experiences. Promote rights, responsibilities, equality, unity and respect of various peoples by providing resources to the community.

Goal 2012 - Youth Leadrship Camp

Future leaders in a community are critical for continuity and progress. SETAC will be identifying youth to become future leaders of the community. Our Youth Leadership Camp will help to teach and provide a solid foundation of our goals and vision enabling SETAC to reach a broader spectrum of identified risk groups.

Goal 2015 - Statewide toll free youth hotline

To help accomplish our goal, SETAC believes that a youth hotline is essential to reach the outlying areas in the State of Jalisco. Toll Free telephone access for youth will allow the reach of SETAC to be felt in remote areas or for youth unable to travel to Puerto Vallarta for essential services.

SETAC is organized in 4 general areas:

  • Prevention and Harm Reduction Programs
  • Social and Community Outreach
  • Volunteer Services
  • Fundraising

Prevention and Harm Reduction Programs

While our future plans are extensive, we currently provide broad based programs that are responsive to the needs of our community.

Social and Community Outreach – As this is a new concept in Mexico, our first goal is to become trusted and accepted in the community. We will accomplish this with Center events and programs, and community service. SETAC has selected the CAPASITS HIV Shelter as our primary Community Outreach project.
