Solidarity, Ed Thomas A.C (SETAC) was founded June 2009 to unite the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community in Puerto Vallarta, with the primary purpose of assisting at-risk people in our community with a focus on at-risk young people.
As Puerto Vallarta has embraced the GLBT community for many years, an idea developed was time to create the first GLBT Community Center in Mexico.
Puerto Vallarta is a unique and special place for many people. Our friendly people, climate, beaches and attractions provide for significant tourism. Puerto Vallarta has also been called the “San Francisco” of Mexico. As such, Puerto Vallarta draws people from all over Mexico seeking an opportunity to live openly as GLBT in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding, while also seeking employment in our robust tourism economy.
Many GLBT young people arrive in Puerto Vallarta completely unprepared for employment and GLBT life. Without employment or opportunity, GLBT people, especially youth, are susceptible for involvement with risky and life threatening activities in order to survive. It is primarily for these people that SETAC was formed.
